First appearing on internet stores sometime around 2002 the InFocus X1 projector has a record full of praise and high ratings from satisfied users. The projector has 1000 ANSI lumens a far cry from today's projectors with as much as 4000 to 7000 lumens of brightness. It however has a powerful contrast ration of 2000:1 and is compatible with SVGA, VGA and XGA. After many years of service the X1 is now out of production and has been replaced by its newer cousin the X2. The X1 was designed for easy portability and to be compatible with both PC and Mac operating systems.
The projector was amongst the first to come to the market with the ability to be mounted inverted on the ceiling in boardrooms, classrooms and conference rooms. It has an inbuilt 2.5 watt speaker. The projector became a hit with lots of people purchasing it for connection tor their Xbox and game Cube through the s-video input. It permits a viewing distance of up to 11 feet and can perfectly handle DVD movies. The projector was also amongst the first DLP projectors too hit the market. This enabled it to show impressive sharp pictures with virtually no visible pixel structure.
DLP technology has made it possible for hundreds of thousands of homes across America to turn their ordinary living room, basement or bedroom onto a fully fledged entertainment system competing with the cinema house. During its time the projector cost more than made advanced projectors today cost. This is also an indication that prices have gone down in the projection word whilst the quality of technology has continued to improve. All has not however been rosy concerning this InFocus X1 projector. Just like its sister model the X1A, many people have complained of the projector making strange grinding noises at the 2000 hour mark. This would eventually grind the projector to a halt or become to noisy to bear one would be forced to shut it down.
Apart from these negative experiences overall, the projector was classic. Those who look for it to buy today usually find good used ones. Those who own it and continue to use it constantly look for replacement bulbs which average 0.00. As time goes on it will likely become very difficult to get a replacement lamp for this InFocus model. That will be the time to permanently retire the projector which has had nearly 10 years of successful service to the business, education and home communities.
